Become a
Foster Home

Help EBR in our mission by fostering a bird! Fostering is a great way to donate your time while simultaneously having fun.

Foster a bird, help save a life

Like many people, you probably find yourself spending a lot of time at home these days. What better time to foster a bird? Opening your home to an EBR foster saves lives and frees up space for other birds to be rescued. Fostering a bird, even short-term, has long-lasting effects for the bird, and helps EBR to expand its mission far and wide. If you live in the state of Oregon, or Vancouver, Washington area, and have prior bird experience, you are likely eligible to be a foster volunteer! Follow the steps below to become a foster "parront".

Foster homes must be within a reasonable distance of Portland or Eugene, OR. In general, foster homes must be within two hours of either Portland or Eugene. Keep this in mind if you choose to continue.

How to Foster

  1. Bird Care Class: Start by taking our free online class for the latest in bird care and veterinary recommendations. Take class here.

  2. Questionnaire: Once you pass the Bird Care Class, you will be emailed a foster questionnaire within 72 hours to fill out. This is our way of getting to know you and helping you find your temporary feathered companion.

  3. Home Inspection: From the info indicated on your questionnaire, we will contact you to schedule a virtual home inspection.

  4. Connect: After completing the inspection, our Foster Coordinator will email you to discuss preferences and help you find the right birds.
